Dusk till Dawn

Dusk couldn't get herself to walk to Dawn. She could feel her heartbeat louder, either from nervousness or all the attention she should receive if she dared.

Dawn was similar to Dusk that people kept pairing them together; they were curious about what the two would do together. Dusk wouldn't mind talking to Dawn but having the attention of many eyes drained the social cells out of her. The more they pressured them to talk the more they couldn't. They wanted to enjoy their conversation away from prying eyes but that was the only place they could meet.

Dawn had been on the same wavelength as Dusk in terms of demeanor, but people treated them as if they belonged in the same pod.  Dusk wanted to be free of people's attention, but they kept treating her like a baby they want to watch her every move and remember that it made her relationships with people rather awkward. She was afraid her every move would be analyzed differently from her intentions. She wanted to be casual and let her personality fly but the perceptions waiting to bloom kept her on her toes. She couldn't even look in the direction of any male species.

Technology was her savior; she could talk to Dawn easily and have a good time with him even if they weren't physically together. She could feel her heart race as they talked for hours. Words kept flowing and she couldn't believe it.  She kept looking forward to their night conversations. They talked, flirted and so much more. Dusk couldn't believe she could make memories online and keep returning for more. She wanted to go home badly so she can talk the night away with him. And go back to school to pretend they didn't know each other.

But it wasn't all rainbows till the end. The game of strangers turned to almost strangers. There was no poison like in Romeo and Juliet. From Dawn saying Dusk's eyes were pretty to him asking if they were friends or lovers, things got awkward when Dusk picked safe to stay clear of gossip and friends teasing her to go with the flow. A move she wished hadn't been present in her cards. A situation she wished she had navigated better.

Fast forward to days when high school was on its way to being a memory, she kept looking at his number wanting to have a conversation but couldn't click on it. A weird feeling kept lacing her heart every time she was reminded of him. She wondered if he still was up for flirting games or just talking the night away. She succumbed to the world of fiction; a world of possibilities. What she wasn't able to do, she would read about.

But you are tempted to extend your arm if something is within reach. So did she. She decided to be the one who made the move even if he told her to not waste time trying to bring to life what was gone. The lingering feeling urged her to do something. As they were similar, and with her breaking from her own cage, she wanted to pull him out with her. Dusk kept trying to rekindle a friendship she wanted to last. Or even more.

Dawn had probably moved on. Dusk couldn't have known. They were the types to stay in the comfort of their homes. Dusk vowed to even fly the sky just for another experience like the old times. The memories of Dawn in her life had become a treasure. She stared at the ceiling reminiscing, and the future where her mind always lingered started to draw a picture of two hands clasped together of two people walking towards a sunset with smiles and hearts racing miles. Dusk wasn't looking for a type, she was looking for love only.

When they met again, Dusk felt like she was to blame for the awkwardness. She didn't want it that way. She wanted it to be laughs and conversations. She wanted there to be many memories to catch up to. She wanted to stare at the eyes of Dawn, the eyes she had found scary, eyes she thought she could lose herself into. The small moment was sweet.

But even with the past still eating her heart away wishing she had dived into a secret romance than play it safe, she smiled knowing the cards had been turned in her favor. If she came back face to face with the options, 'friend or lover', she would know she was becoming a player or a lucky woman.
